How it's calculated
- path loss and loss through each wall by its build-up — concrete attenuates more than plasterboard, and at an angle a wall is “thicker”
- windows by glazing, doors and openings by the opening height
- transmit power within EU limits and radiation pattern: an omnidirectional router, or a flat AP on the wall or ceiling
- 2.4 and 5 GHz bands
What you'll see
- a colour map of the signal on the floor, at a height of one metre
- the exact signal strength in dBm with a click anywhere
- what share of the flat gets at least −67 dBm, enough for video calls
Drag access points with the mouse; a flat AP snaps to the wall or ceiling by itself.
The calculation is a model (multi-wall per COST 231 and ITU-R P.1238), not a measurement. Furniture, appliances and neighbours' networks affect it, but it's enough to choose where to put the router.
